Cattle Diseases - National Update

Headlines

Fluke

Nationally, Fluke reports reached their autumn peak in November, and began to fall away again in December. The drop in cases nationally however masks wide regional variations: in Scotland, they have halved since November but in Wales they were up 50%.

Gut Worm Scours (PGE)

PGE reports declined ever more steeply in December to well below the three-year average. Cases were only seen in the Midlands & West and the South West regions. If normal trends are followed, they will remain low until late spring.

Pneumonia

Numbers of reported cases of pneumonia plummeted nationally in December, in line with previous years. If numbers of reports follow the 3-year average, then cases should remain low until early summer 2008.
